Choose from two captivating trips throughout the summer:
Water!
June 13 – June 21
Launch into an unforgettable aquatic adventure with Trip 1 – Water as campers prepare for and complete a multi-day canoe expedition along Michigan’s scenic Manistee River. The journey begins at Red Oak Basecamp, where campers spend the first two days learning essential expedition skills—efficient gear packing, paddle strokes, river navigation, campsite setup, and outdoor cooking. Campers will practice these skills on Red Oak’s trails and lake while building confidence with their trip group.
On the third day, the group departs for Michigan’s Lower Peninsula to begin their river journey. Traveling through winding waterways and forested riverbanks, campers paddle a beautiful stretch of the Manistee River while carrying the gear needed to live comfortably in the backcountry. Working in pairs, campers help set up campsites and prepare meals each evening, building independence, teamwork, and lasting memories on the water.
Rocks!
July 18 – July 26
Climb into a bold and transformative adventure with Trip 3 – Rocks as campers prepare for and complete a rock climbing expedition through West Virginia’s most iconic climbing destinations. The experience begins at Red Oak Basecamp, where campers spend the first two days learning the fundamentals of climbing, rappelling, knot systems, and expedition living. Campers practice on Red Oak’s climbing wall and surrounding property while building trust and teamwork with their climbing group.
On the third day, the group travels to New River Gorge, where they establish a basecamp and begin climbing natural rock formations while refining their skills. Midweek, the expedition continues to Seneca Rocks, where campers take on more technical routes and prepare for a culminating summit climb. The trip challenges campers physically and mentally while building confidence, perseverance, and unforgettable memories forged on the rock.
The Red Oak Adventure Trip offers our older campers a unique opportunity. This summer we will offer two unique sessions each focusing on a different aspect of wilderness adventure.
The 9-day session will begin staying overnight in our cabins at Red Oak Basecamp, where we will learn backpacking, rock-climbing or canoeing basics on our walls, trails and lake. On the third day, we will depart for our out-of-state trip, where we will spend the rest of our time on our adventure before returning to Kirtland. While backpacking or canoeing, campers carry all the necessary gear to live comfortably in the woods, and in groups of 3, set up camp and prepare dinner each night. Our rock climbers will be camping at a basecamp in tents near the base of the climbs.
This is the ultimate camp experience!!
